The Society was founded on the 1st of June 1949, and the founder Members are:

• Mr. W. P. BLAKESLAY (Thomas Cook & Son)
• Mr. A.B. SPENCE (Peermade Tea Co., Travancore)
• Mr. T. B. LAWRENCE
• Mr. J. JACKSON (Kanan Devan Tea Co., Munnar)

Mr. R. C. Paterson was subsequently elected Founder and Patron of the Society.
